Neuroma is a nerve that has become pinched or trapped and can become enlarged due to repetative trauma. Burning, tingling, numbness between toes and in the ball of the foot are common symptoms associated with a neuroma.
Treatment
Early intervention is important in the success of conservative treatment which consists of strapping, padding, physical therapy, steroid injections, sclerosing alcohol and/or custom functional orthotics. Your podiatrist will perform an exam and probably take xrays to help determine the proper treatment course. When Pain does not resolve with conservative therapy surgery may be necessary. Surgical procedures include releasing of ligaments around the neuroma or removal of the offending nerve.
